Gender Pay Gap, Who is Hiring, and Use This Instagram Feature

Gender Pay Gap, Who is Hiring, and Use This Instagram Feature

Short ditties on gender pay gap, and why you should use Instagram Stories to stand out to employers instead of Snapchat! All below for your consumption!

The US has one of the worst gender pay gap among the world’s wealthy countries! From QZ.com

“It shows that women are increasingly pursuing tertiary education—that is, community college, bachelor’s degree, master’s, or doctoral degrees. In 2014, 58% of graduates from their first institution of post-high-school education in the US were women.”

Looking for a New Job? Yodle is Hiring 70-100 Salespeople—Every Month From TheMuse.com

” Yodle, an all-in-one marketing platform for local businesses with offices in Austin, Charlotte, Scottsdale, and more, offers both the stellar opportunities and awesome culture you’re looking for. Best of all, the company is hiring 70 to 100 new salespeople per month—so if you want the job, you’ve definitely got a shot.”

A few weeks ago, I wrote an article for Recruiter.com, “5 Reasons Job Seekers Should Use Instagram Stories.” I didn’t find out until recently it was picked up by Fox Business!

In the article, I basically advocated for the use of Instagram Stories (Instagram latest feature) to stand out to employers rather than using Snapchat. I cited a few reasons for using this new feature:

  1. People who use Instagram have an audience already
  2. It’s much easier to use and understand
  3. You can measure results, followers, and engagement. Snapchat does not have data available to users

Another reason I didn’t mention in the article is Instagram has third party apps useful to integrate to Instagram Stories. If you use Instagram, the new feature is at the top left of your page as “New!”

I am trying to survey new features on different social media platforms for you to see if it would be viable for a job seeker to use to get his or her message to an employer. The Elements of Good Grammar for Your Career

Some career organizations are celebrating, “ International Update Your Resume Month,” and good grammar is essential for your career.  Since resumes are one of many documents needed for your career success, I thought this was a good time for a show on grammar. Emails, business letters of kinds, and social media updates require correct grammar.

Today’s guest is Susan Rooks, aka “The Grammar Goddess.” Susan has taught business writing in many countries including the United States and on many other subjects. Susan executes a straight-forward approach to teaching and training others on grammar. She will also tell you she does not know every English grammar rule in existence.

How do you feel about the importance of grammar? Let me know what you think:

  1. Call and leave a voicemail at 708-365-9822, or text your comments to the same number
  2. Go to TheVoiceofJobSeekers.com, press the “Send Voicemail” button on the right side of your screen and leave a message
  3. Send email feedback to mark@thevoiceofjobseekers.com
Susan Rooks is a Business Communications Coach, copyeditor, proofreader, and blogger. For the last 20 years, she has worked as a corporate trainer nationally and internationally. She says, “To help business professionals look and sound as smart as they are. When they look smart, their company does too.”
Some of the highlights of our discussion:
–Grammar is considered by most unnecessary to consider on social media
–You never know who is looking and scrutinizing, we do judge
–Punctuation helps and gives us structure
–We discuss the differences between active and passive voice. Passive voice is often wordier
–Passive voice can also mislead or in some instances “save face.”
–We discuss the importance of the Oxford comma (she uses it)

Need help with your career goals, directions, or efforts? Do you need coaching or instruction? I am here for it!

If you’re a career pro and love giving career advice, let me know. I would love to have more guest writers during my hiatus and beyond. Thanks for being among the thousands who listen every month. There’s so much more to come so stay tuned!
